Helena's life has been one of service to God through The Salvation Army since her earliest years. Taken by her Mum, Margaret, to the Army at the Dundee Central corps she became a junior soldier and then a singing company member and a young people's band member.

As she progressed into her teenage years she became an enthusiastic timbrellist, songster and tenor horn player in the corps band.

Later, having married John, she moved with him and with Paul and Clara to Reading in 2002 and became a member of the Reading Central corps.

She found opportunity for service in the songsters, contributing to the Army's annual ministry at the Reading Rock Festival, in Door to Door collecting for the Annual Appeal and working in the youth club, all of which she enjoyed.

In recent years Helena worked at Coley Primary School supervising the children at lunchtime and in the playground.

In all these activities she earned the respect and admiration of the teachers and children.

Helena's wishes were that The Celebration Service should be a Joyous occasion giving the Glory to God in true Salvation Army manner led by Majors Robert and Dana Reid.

A packed Salvation Army hall saw the congregation uplift their voices to "Shine,Jesus,Shine" accompanied by the Reading Central band, timbellists and much clapping.

Reading Central songsters sang "I'm a soldier bound for Glory"

Tributes were paid by the corps representative Russell Crosby and family tributes by Paul and John.  The scripture reading; 2 Thessalonians 1: 3-12 was also captured in the Major's message "Heaven's Reward".

The service closed with the song "My Jesus, I love thee" followed by the benediction.

A closing collection was taken for cancer research.
